Bear knocks over Trash can, Alarms Burbank Residents amid week-long sightings

Residents of a Burbank neighbourhood are becoming concerned about a bear that has been wandering around for more than a week.

The bear was first seen on camera on April 19, who claimed to have seen it in his Elmwood Avenue driveway two nights in a row.

The man posted the video to let his neighbours know about its existence because he wanted to spread the news. The bear is seen in the footage wandering across the driveway, pausing, smelling, and then toppling a trash can.

“It happened last night and two nights ago,” the man said on April 19. “I am sure the bear will show up [again].”

On Tuesday morning, another viewer provided KTLA camera footage of what appears to be the same bear behind her house on Elmwood Avenue.

“The bear has been roaming around Elmwood Avenue for approximately a week and a half, raising growing concern among residents,” the viewer said. “The bear has been seen multiple times throughout the neighborhood and poses a safety risk, including the potential for property damage or break-ins.”

She added that a bear sighting notice has been issued for the region of the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue after she and other locals phoned Burbank Animal Control. Another local told KTLA on Tuesday morning that he had never seen a bear on his street before.

Officials at Burbank said in a press statement that they were informed of the bear’s actions by April 21.

“Please be aware: as the weather gets warmer, wildlife becomes more active,” the Burbank Animal Shelter said on social media.
