Iowa County officials are investigating a semi-truck incident that killed a Belleville man on Friday.
According to ICSO, emergency personnel arrived about noon to the scene of a two-vehicle incident on U.S. Highway 18/151 and County Trunk Highway K in Brigham.
According to investigators, 47-year-old Luke Mac Lean was traveling west on USH 18/151 in a Ford F-150 when he collided with a semi-truck and trailer.
The semi-truck entered the westbound lanes of USH 18/151 from CTH K and was approaching highway speeds when the F-150 collided with the semi’s rear, according to officials.
The sheriff’s office said that Mac Lean died at the scene. The semi-truck driver, a 39-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was unharmed and was able to remove the vehicle from the site.
Over the last decade, over 30 crashes have occurred near this intersection, according to officials.
“This intersection has been the site of numerous serious incidents and continues to be a known danger for motorists,” stated Sheriff Michael Peterson. “It is imperative that corrective measures be taken to improve safety before more lives are lost.”
The sheriff strongly advises vehicles to avoid approaching USH 18/151 immediately from CTH K and instead take Exit 58.
The incident was Iowa County’s fourth fatal traffic crash in 2025.
