Two people died early Sunday morning in Placer County when a car hit a tree and split in half, according to the police.
California Highway Patrol said the accident took place at 3:14 a.m. on Eureka Road in Granite Bay.
According to the CHP, the driver lost control of the car, it went off the road, and it hit a tree. Then the car, a BMW, split in half.
Driving too fast is thought to have caused the accident, and the driver may have been drunk or high, according to the CHP.
The driver and passenger, both men, died at the scene, the CHP said.
The cause of the crash is still being looked into.
