As the fire broke out in the caravan house that a woman in New Hampshire was living in, her neighbours came to her rescue.
At eight minutes past eight o’clock on Friday, April 18, a large fire with three alarms broke out on Eastern Avenue in Amherst, New Hampshire. Even a barn that was adjacent to the house was obliterated.
A little over an hour was required for the firemen to bring the flames under control, but they also had to contend with brush fire conditions because of the wind.
After some time had passed, Amherst Public Works dispatched an excavator to the location in order to clean away the debris and completely put out the fire.
After noticing the gravity of the situation, two neighbours immediately called the Amherst Fire Department. However, when they saw the situation, they decided to take rescue operations into their own hands.
Artem Kozlov, who has been a resident of the region for a number of months, was outdoors while cleaning the paws of his dog after he had gone for a walk when he witnessed the fire breaking out.
His friend Tom Hansis, who has lived just across the street from the caravan house for the past three decades, was the one who Kozlov ran to get.
The woman was unaware that her home was on fire when the two men entered the home to rescue her. They were able to get her to safety outdoors. “I told (Artem), ‘We’ve got three minutes to get her out of here,’ ” Hansis stated, “‘So, let’s go.'”
Despite Kozlov and Hansis’ best efforts, the woman’s two cats were unable to be saved and passed away at the scene of the accident.
They were successful in recovering the bodies of the pets so that they could be buried in an appropriate manner.
“If that ever happened to my wife? I mean, I would hope somebody did the same thing,” Hansis stated.

Koslov pondered the closeness that existed between the people who lived in his new neighbourhood.
“These people are amazing over here,” he stated. “I’ve lived in the United States just for three years, and these people are amazing.”
According to the Amherst incident Department, an investigation as to what caused the incident is currently underway.
