Calista Fockhart joins the cast of Supergirl alongside Melissa Benoist, including Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Laura Benanti in the recurring role as Kara’s mother.
“Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant,” declared EP Andrew Kreisberg in a statement. “We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”
Based on Kara Zor-El by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, “Supergirl” follows Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), known as the cousin of Superman, who was also born on the Krypton planet and fled in the middle of its doom many years ago. Benoist portrays Kara, who after landing on planet Earth was welcomed by a humble foster family called the Danvers. The Danvers family advised her to be cautious with her supernatural powers (The same superpowers which she shares with her well-known superhero cousin Superman).
Now, Kara who turned 24, feels less empowered, a vassal concealed her natural powers. Although Kara is undoubtedly a beautiful woman, at times she seems to be confused as she has to live with two different personalities. One as Supergirl and the other, she hides her face behind the quirky glasses and her hair tied back and kept out of her face. But unforeseen catastrophe compels her to use her super abilities in front of people. Felt accomplished by her act of heroism, for the very first time in her life, Kara starts appreciating more of her abilities. She then starts helping out the people in need within the city she lives, and people soon begin to notice her and give her the name Supergirl.
In Supergirl, actress Calista Flockhart will portray the infamous DC Comics character ‘Cat Grant.’ In CBS’ embodiment, Cat is the self-made media mogul and originator of CatCo. Cat began her career as a correspondent and has made her company into a multinational powerhouse. Kara works as the assistant of Cat Grant.
For the actress, the role labels as her first series-regular position following her five seasons run on ABC’s show “Brothers & Sisters” and also her five seasons turn on the Fox’s “Ally McBeal” show. Flockhart also portrays a role on the network DirecTV’s “Full Circle” season 2, where actors mostly do about a single or two episodes. The actress is repping under Gersh, Industry Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.
