CHELSEA
– With two terms under his belt as a member of the Chelsea City Council Place 5 representative Casey Morris has announced that he will be seeking another four years on Chelsea’s governing group.
Morris made his plans known in an official Facebook post on Wednesday, June 11, citing his plans to continue helping in the city’s plan for the future and its growth.
“I’m seeking a third term on the Chelsea City Council because I believe in smart growth, strong infrastructure and putting our community first,” said an official Facebook post by Casey Morris.
Morris has lived in Chelsea his entire life and was a 2005 graduate of Chelsea High School. He is also an active member in the community, serving with the Chelsea Kiwanis Club, Chelsea Youth Club and is the chair elect for the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce.
Elected to the council for the first time during the 2016 municipal election, he most recently ran unopposed in the 2020 race and has since headed the efforts for Chelsea to become an Alabama Community of Excellence.
At the beginning of his time on the Chelsea City Council, Morris served on two committees—one for hiring a new city clerk, who is now Crystal Etheredge, and filling the then empty position of the director for Chelsea Parks and Rec.
Outside of serving for the council, Morris works a full-time job as information technology operations coordinator for McLeod Software, a major name in the transportation management industry.
Now, with major growth sitting on the horizon for Chelsea, Morris stated that continuing to help the town he has spent his whole life in is one of his top goals, urging citizens to support his campaign.
“From protecting our neighborhoods to supporting projects like the Yellowleaf Creek Greenway and local business development, I’m committed to preserving Chelsea’s charm while planning for a better future,” Morris’ Facebook post said.
In the upcoming Chelsea municipal election, Cody Sumners, who holds Place 1, is the only City Councilman not seeking reelecton, as he is running for the mayoral seat. At this time, Scott Weygand and Arthur Fisher Jr. are the ones to officially announce their campaigns.
The municipal election for the city of Chelsea will be held on Aug. 26, and voting will take place at the Chelsea Community Center.
