Cheese Sold at Trader Joe’s Recalled in Two States Over Health Concerns

This week, Face Rock Creamery voluntarily recalled two lots of its “Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Curds” from Trader Joe’s stores in northern California and northern Nevada.

The recall came about as a result of routine product tests revealing the possibility of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The product was recalled by the company, which has its headquarters in Bandon, Oregon, on June 20; however, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet classified the recall.

Listeriosis, also known as an infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, can result in symptoms such as a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea.

Young children, the elderly, people with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women are at a greater risk of contracting the bacterium. If they become infected with the bacterium, they may experience miscarriages or stillbirths and lose their babies.

Soft cheeses, deli meats, and dairy products that have not been pasteurised are some of the foods that have been identified by the Cleveland Clinic as having a higher likelihood of including listeria in their composition.

Listeria monocytogenes was found in finished product samples during routine sampling, which led to the discovery of the problem.

Both the Food and Drug Administration and the Oregon Department of Agriculture have been notified by Face Rock Creamery, and the company is continuing its efforts to determine the origin of the contamination.

There was a problem with the product known as “Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Curds,” which was sold in plastic cups with a lid and a capacity of 6 ounces. The “Use By” date on the product itself was August 29, 2025.

There are two lot numbers for this product: 20250519VS01 and 20250519VS02. The Universal Product Code for this item is 8 51222 00528 2007.

Trader Joe’s stores in northern California (including locations in Monterey, Fresno, and all areas north) and northern Nevada (specifically in Carson City, Reno, and Sparks) were the target locations for the distribution of the product.

According to the most recent information, there have been no reports of illnesses that have been linked to the product that was recalled.
