Prepared chicken fettuccine that is ready to eat FreshRealm, a food manufacturer, has decided to voluntarily recall Alfredo meals in response to a nationwide listeria outbreak that has been linked to 17 illnesses and three fatalities.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture announced on Tuesday that FreshRealm had issued a recall for chicken fettuccine Alfredo meals that were sold in Kroger and Walmart stores across the country under the Marketside and Home Chef brand names.
According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the outbreak has been linked to a total of sixteen hospitalisations, three deaths, and the loss of a pregnancy. There were reports of fatalities in the states of Illinois, Michigan, and Texas.
During the period beginning on July 24, 2024 and ending on May 10, 2024, at least seventeen individuals reported experiencing illness in thirteen different states, as stated by the agencies.
The Food and Drug Administration, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food Safety and Inspection Service are currently conducting an investigation into the outbreak.

“The investigation will focus on how Listeria may have entered the product, and whether it entered from a FreshRealm facility, or through any of the ingredients that FreshRealm received from external ingredient suppliers,” the company stated.
Products that have been recalled include:
- “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” comes in 32.8 oz packages that expire on June 27, 25th, or earlier.
- Products with a best-by date of June 26, 25 or earlier include 12.3 oz packages of “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli, and Shaved Parmesan Cheese.”
- “HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese” comes in 12.5-ounce packages that expire on June 19, 2025, or earlier.

The establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718” that are printed on the side of the packaging can also be used to identify the products.
Customers who may have bought the products are advised to return them to the store where they were bought or toss them away rather than eating them.
Because listeria spreads easily, the CDC also advises cleaning any refrigerators, containers, or surfaces that the meal may have come into contact with.
