Officials have confirmed that at least five individuals were hurt in a two-car incident Sunday evening in Los Angeles’ harbor district.
Officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department rushed at the intersection of N. Wilmington Boulevard and W. Opp Street just before 8 p.m., however details are limited and the actual cause of the incident is unknown.
In a video shared to the Citizen app, a dark-colored four-door sedan was severely damaged after striking with a power pole and crushing the hood nearly all the way back into the windshield. It also looks that the airbags were deployed inside the vehicle.
A second vehicle, an earlier model, light-colored Volkswagen Beetle, was observed in the center of the junction before being loaded onto a flatbed tow truck. It is unclear how much damage, if any, the car sustained.
Early reports indicated that a 3-year-old child was among the victims who required sophisticated medical treatment for their injuries, but officials have yet to confirm that information to police.
Footage from the scene shows a massive debris field surrounded by yellow tape.
Around a half-dozen persons were conversing with officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division at the closed-off intersection.
It is presently unknown whether all five injured people were transported to the hospital and what their conditions were. At least one ambulance was seen on camera leaving the scene of the incident.
No other information was released, nor did detectives say if they believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
