A man is in jail following a deadly high-speed chase across Southern California motorways and into downtown Los Angeles that ended in an accident.
It’s unknown when or where the pursuit began, but deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were chasing a car near Long Beach around 5:30 p.m. before calling it off.
When CHP picked up the pursuit from their helicopter, the suspect was on the northbound 110 Freeway, driving on the shoulder in moderate to heavy traffic and weaving in and out of other drivers.
The suspect, driving a white SUV, exited the freeway onto surface streets in downtown Los Angeles, where they were seen speeding through stoplights and endangering other motorists.
L.A. police temporarily joined the chase in downtown because the stolen vehicle suspect was speeding and travelling on the wrong side of the road.
On Glendale Boulevard, the suspect blew through an intersection and was hit by another car, rendering the white SUV inoperable.
The male suspect attempted to leave on foot, but was immediately arrested by CHP.
