Authorities have taken a second individual into custody related to the armed robbery that occurred on April 7 at an M&T Bank in the Town of Sweden, resulting in the theft of nearly half a million dollars.
On April 15, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit apprehended 60-year-old Michael O’Shea from Rochester. He faces serious allegations, including first-degree robbery and second-degree grand larceny, both classified as felonies. O’Shea appeared in CAP Court and is currently detained at the Monroe County Jail with a bail set at $75,000 cash or $150,000 bond.
Officials report that O’Shea’s apprehension comes on the heels of the prior capture of John J. Savage, 49, also from Rochester, who was taken into custody soon after the heist. He is confronted with comparable allegations and is currently detained with a bail set at $50,000, either in cash or bond.
Investigators report that a masked individual donned in a reflective vest entered the M&T Bank on Fourth Section Road, brandished a handgun, compelled everyone into the women’s restroom, and made off with $452,600 after instructing the manager to unlock the safe. He made a quick getaway in a blue Honda Civic.
A citizen’s alert about a suspicious vehicle on Lake Road in Hamlin led deputies to the getaway car, resulting in the recovery of a significant amount of stolen money, according to police reports. Authorities reported that both individuals were connected to the theft.
The investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
