After being found guilty of causing a deadly car accident in 2023 while under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms, a man was sentenced to jail on Friday.
The jury found that on December 30, 2023, 23-year-old Fullington William Frazer III ran a red light in his Dodge Caliber at 60 miles per hour and collided with two vehicles.
Frazer was found guilty of careless driving, recklessly endangering another person, DUII, first-degree manslaughter, and fourth-degree assault. He will be imprisoned for 25 years.
Just before 8 p.m., Frazer was driving his roommate, Mitchell Scott Barr, to the Milwaukie grocery store when the collision occurred close to the intersection of SE Freeman Way and Highway 224. He hit a Toyota Prius and a Subaru Forester.
Barr, 24, died after being ejected from Frazer’s vehicle. Fleetwood Mars Mozee, 37, the Subaru’s driver, was also killed in the collision. Both the Prius’s driver and passenger suffered injuries.
According to the prosecution, Frazer behaved strangely following the collision. Frazer once said, “I just want the love,” in response to a question about whether he needed medical help.
After being transported to the hospital at Oregon Health and Science University, Frazer told an Oregon State Police trooper that he couldn’t recall ever having a passenger in his vehicle. Frazer allegedly said, “Are they okay?” after learning that two people had perished in the collision.
A toxicology test revealed that Frazer had psilocybin mushrooms in his system.
In her closing statement, Clackamas County Deputy District Attorney Chelsea Jones referred to the collision as “one of the most destructive crashes he’d ever seen” by an Oregon State Police trooper who went to the site.
Frazer was on probation for a public obscenity conviction from 2021 at the time of the collision. According to court documents, he was the only person hurt in a high-speed collision that occurred in Portland in March 2023.
