Corbett Phinney announced as JSCC men’s golf coach

FROM WORKER REPORTS

SHELBY NORTHCorbett Phinney has been hired as the new men’s golf coach at Jefferson State Community College.

Previously a professional in Georgia, where he coached the Professional Golf Association Junior League, Phinney is a veteran of the Air Force and currently plays professionally at the team’s home course, Bent Brook Golf Course.

According to Jefferson State Athletic Director Jacob Call, Coach Corbett, who played golf in high school and college, was very beneficial during this year’s NJCAA Women’s District Tournament. We can’t wait to see where he leads us.

Since he first picked up a golf club as a child, the sport has been a mainstay in his life, therefore Phinney stated his excitement about what the role will bring.

Accepting the role of head golf coach at Jefferson State Community College is an honor and a huge thrill for me. Phinney uttered those words. Since I was three years old, I have played golf, and it has always been a passion of mine. Being able to oversee this program is a privilege and a duty that I gladly accept.

Every time he assists a golfer, Phinney talked about how he takes satisfaction in the opportunity he has at JSCC to help his players become better athletes and men for the future.

According to Phinney, “my coaching philosophy is rooted in excellence both on and off the course.” Even though I’m very competitive and motivated to succeed, I think the real test of success is how well the young men I teach develop. My objective is to assist them in becoming not only exceptional athletes but also capable leaders, fathers, husbands, and community members. I’m excited to create a program that upholds Jefferson State’s principles and encourages pride in our athletes, their families, and the school community.

In the autumn, ten golfers from the state of Alabama are anticipated to play for the Pioneers. Birmingham, Jacksonville, Leeds, Pelham, and Smiths Station are among the new golfers.

Several Alabama community colleges will host tournaments in the fall, along with a trip to Windance Country Club in Gulfport, Mississippi, and a Jefferson State tournament at Musgrove Country Club in Jasper from November 2-4.
