One innocent driver was hurt and another was arrested in a nasty crash that occurred Monday night during a high-speed street racing.
Surveillance cameras recorded the collision, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m., and showed a black Ford Mustang crashing into two vehicles at a red light.
The Mustang, driven by Vacaville resident Alexis Nieto Salinas, 22, was racing a black Corvette on eastbound Interstate 80 just before pulling off at Cliffside Drive, according to Vacaville police.
According to a police social media post, the Mustang lost control at the bottom of the off-ramp and collided with two unwary cars, “sending glass and plastic flying and causing significant damage.”
Salinas was taken into custody by the authorities on charges of reckless driving and misdemeanor speeding, and he was lodged into the Solano County Jail. Police officers also said that his Mustang was detained for 30 days.
Later, according to jail records, Salinas was out of detention by Wednesday and had most likely secured bail. According to the reports, Salinas had a prior conviction for dangerous speed from 2023, but court records did not yet show any new charges.
Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge about the second driver to come forward and are still looking for the Corvette that was part in the race.
The shocking video footage makes it quite evident how street racing can have disastrous effects on onlookers. Police also praised the community members who hurried to assist the crash victims in their online post.
