According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested and charged with murder in Riverview following a fatal overdose over a year and a half ago.
When deputies attended to a medical emergency back in November 2023, they discovered a 23-year-old guy who was not responding.
Jordan Johnson, the victim, passed away after being transported to a local hospital.
At the time of his arrest, 32-year-old Quadrian Harris was simply charged with fentanyl trafficking and peacefully resisting arrest.
After conducting additional research, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement concluded that fentanyl was the cause of Johnson’s overdose.
Harris was arrested on Tuesday after they presented their findings to the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, which authorized a first-degree murder prosecution.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister says he is committed to holding fentanyl distributors responsible.
“This arrest is a reminder that drug dealers who poison our communities with deadly substances will be held accountable,” said Chronister. “This was not just a drug deal. It was a deadly transaction that cost a young man his life. We remain committed to pursuing justice for every victim and their loved ones.”
The inquiry is still ongoing.
