Is Die Hard 6 dead at Disney or is it happening? Well, it’s been eight years since Bruce Willis last took down the bad guys as John McClane, but are we getting a release? Here’s what we know so far.
Die Hard 6 renewal: Is it going to happen?
Die Hard 6 has been in the planning stages since 2017, said to focus on both young and present day John, and bring back his ex-wife Holly. The production for a theatrical release was later cancelled outright in August 2019 by Disney after they bought Fox in 2019.
But most recently, in summer 2019, reports said that Disney was now developing McClane as a streaming series, presumably to run on Disney+ or Hulu. That said, YES – Die Hard 6 is happening!!

There’s no release date for Die Hard 6. The film is still in development status – and well, action blockbusters anyway take a long time to shoot, and even longer to complete post-production
Die Hard 6 plot: What can we expect from the sixth movie?
Willis has already stated that this film is “better than the first!” and that “it’s the first real sequel to Die Hard, which was the only really good one”. Woah guys, guess we’ve really got A LOT coming our way!!
The ‘1979’ plot begins in present day New York City. Bruce Willis will be playing present day John McClane. The sixth movie will therefore switch between scenes from 1979 and present day. Other than that, the makers haven’t revealed any potential updates regarding the Die Hard 6 plot. As soon as we receive more news, we’re sure to publish ‘em in our upcoming articles. Die Hard 6 cast: Who’s going to be in it?
When the last Die Hard 6, or McClane, was discussed publicly, the only confirmed cast member set to return was Bruce Willis as John McClane.
With ex-wife Holly in the plans, one assumes Bonnie Bedelia would also come back to reprise her role, but that’s unclear. Mary Elizabeth Winstead also expressed interest in returning as John and Holly’s daughter Lucy.
However, since the plans have fallen through for Die Hard 6, fans of Willis, Winstead, and other potential cast members can look to their other confirmed releases instead.
Die Hard 6 Story Details?
Snake Eyes producer di Bonaventura did go on to say that he doesn’t know what the plans are for a potential future sequel or prequel.
Should Disney decide to revive the franchise, the producer revealed his plans for the sixth installment, saying “it allowed you the ability to meet the young John McClane and use Bruce […] you sort of got to see both versions of him”.
Interestingly enough, the producer also spoke candidly about the nature of the film, stating “it was a project that wasn’t Die Hard that then, eventually, shifted over to Die Hard.”.
