Dodge Charger goes off-road in Apple Valley, Man and teen passenger dead after car hit Pole in Desert

A crash was reported just after midnight on Wednesday in Apple Valley. Authorities reported that at least two people were killed.

At 12:01 a.m. on April 9, 2025, firefighters from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District were dispatched to a traffic collision near Navajo Road and Waalew Road.

However, emergency crews discovered that the crash occurred on Central Road, near a curve south of Waalew Road.

According to preliminary information, the crash occurred on Central Road, where a dark-coloured Dodge Charger was travelling northbound. The vehicle left the road at a curve for reasons not known yet.

The vehicle travelled through a desert area, collided with a wooden utility pole, and eventually came to rest near Walpi Road, west of Central Road and south of Waalew Road.

American Medical Response (AMR) and Medic Engine 332 arrived to the incident, but were later cancelled after officers from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed at least two deaths.

Around 5:00 a.m., firefighters returned to the scene and extricated at least one individual from the vehicle. Southern California Edison technicians also came to help replace the damaged utility pole.

Although two deaths were confirmed, it was unclear whether there were any other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

Central Road was temporarily closed in the area where the crash occurred as deputies investigated the cause of the crash.

The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

The deceased’s identities will be published pending notification of next of kin.

The deceased motorist was identified as 32-year-old Jimmy Terriquez of Apple Valley. The passenger’s identification, a male minor, is pending confirmation and notification to next of kin.

Sheriff’s officials stated that deputies noticed a reckless driver and lost sight of the vehicle, a black 2013 Dodge Charger. They performed an area search and found the truck after it collided with the Edison Pole.
