A 24-year-old man was killed in an accident in Fresno County on Sunday morning after driving too fast.
The single-vehicle crash occurred around 12:10 a.m. on Highway 180, near Temperance Avenue.
Officers observed a Dodge Challenger travelling eastbound on Highway 180 at Clovis Avenue at speeds nearing 130 mph, according to CHP spokesperson Mike Salas.
Officers initiated a traffic stop; however, the vehicle failed to yield and sped, reaching speeds of up to 150 mph as he exited at Temperance Avenue, Salas said.
The driver failed to manoeuvre the off-ramp bend, causing the Dodge to leave the road, become airborne, and overturn several times. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the southbound lanes of Temperance.
The man was pronounced dead.
Salas said it is unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role; toxicology findings are awaiting.
The collision is still under investigation.
