Driver dies after crashing sports car during police chase in Boyle Heights

When the driver of a high-end sports vehicle struck a light pole in the Boyle Heights district of Los Angeles early on Friday morning, a brief pursuit came to a violent and fatal end.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol started chasing a silver Aston Martin driver who was allegedly speeding close to South Soto Street and Whittier Boulevard at around three in the morning.

Shortly after, the driver crashed into a pole close to Soto Street and Washington Boulevard, ending the pursuit, according to a California Highway Patrol representative.

According to CHP, the motorist first ran away on foot before being swiftly taken to the ground by authorities.

According to officials, the man abruptly lost consciousness while being arrested. When paramedics showed up, they conducted CPR. The driver was declared dead at the spot, though.

“There was a small amount of force that was used,” Highway Patrol Sgt. Dan Keene told reporters. “When the fire department arrived on scene, the driver started to show signs of distress and started to vomit. It’s unknown if he ingested anything or if impairment is a factor at this time.”

According to officers, the Aston Martin was registered to an Irvine address rather than being reported stolen.

Throughout the morning, the Soto Street and Washington Boulevard intersection was blocked off for the inquiry.
