Driver drags officer with car, triggers high-speed chase in Pennsylvania

Police say a motorist accused of leading police on a chase throughout Dauphin County struck and dragged an officer.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Susquehanna Township Police reported that Ronald White, 49, attempted to flee after being discovered by officers searching the 2500 block of Canby Street for a potential stolen vehicle outside of Harrisburg.

White, a resident of Harrisburg, was contacted by local police. He “aggressively operated” the car in an attempt to escape, according to the police.

According to police, a Penbrook Borough Police officer was hit while assisting Susquehanna Township Police officers, and they were thereafter dragged and rolled until they managed to escape the escaping car. Police reported that the officer’s injuries were moderate, and they were sent to the hospital.

Police claimed to have utilised stop sticks during the ensuing chase, which ended in Derry Township.

In addition to misdemeanour allegations of recklessly harming another person and obstructing the administration of law or another official function, White is charged with felonies of aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, and fleeing or attempting to avoid an officer.

White was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Marian Urrutia on Friday morning, and his bail was rejected, resulting in his incarceration at Dauphin County Prison. The date of the preliminary hearing is set on June 26.

Police from Hummelstown, Derry Township, Lower Paxton Township, Harrisburg City, and Swatara Township all provided assistance during the incident.
