Following a reckless driving incident and ensuing police pursuit in Berlin in March, an East Hartford man was taken into custody on Thursday.
On Berlin’s Route 9, a car was recorded traveling at 130 miles per hour, according to state police.
In order to avoid being caught, the driver allegedly made a number of risky maneuvers around other cars and turned off their light in the dark after a state trooper tried to stop the car.
Because of the dangers, the trooper decided not to follow the motorist any further at that time. After an inquiry and prior knowledge of the car, 20-year-old Kelvin Cao was found to be the driver.
Additionally, the investigation found that the car in question concealed the back license plate from view by using a “vanish plate” method. Later, the gadget was confiscated as proof.
When state troopers tried to reach Cao at his home in East Hartford on Thursday, they reportedly saw Cao’s car driving away and stopped it. The driver of the car involved in the March incident was determined to be Cao.
Cao was taken into custody and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, improper passing, dangerous distance, cutting in, failing to display lights, and failing to display a license plate.
Cao is expected to appear in New Britain Superior Court on June 2 after being freed on a $10,000 bond.
