Driver left dangling off I-65 bridge in Louisville crash, pulled to safety by fire crew

According to officials, a semi-truck driver was saved after a collision left him hanging off the side of a bridge in Kentucky.

Authorities reported that the Louisville Metro Police and fire department responded to a car crash on the I-65 Kennedy Bridge on Sunday, May 4, shortly before 10 a.m. local time. The motorist hung off the bridge’s edge as a result of the collision.

According to reports, the individual, who has not yet been recognized, was cognizant and even dialed 911. The motorist claimed he was “about to fall down from the bridge” and was afraid to move for the entire eighteen-minute conversation.

“I’m just hanging over the bridge. I don’t want to die,” the driver told the 911 operator.

According to a Louisville Fire Department post, the rescue operation used a high-point rope system to lower an LFC rescuer into the truck’s cab. After being recovered, the driver was sent to Louisville Metro Emergency Medical Services as a precaution even though he was unharmed.

According to the department, the entire procedure took about 30 minutes. Although an investigation into the incident is still underway, Louisville Police speculated that the motorist lost control in some way.

First responders’ prompt collaboration was praised by the Louisville Fire Department.

“It takes everyone to perform this brave act, from the 911 call center fielding the call for help, to dispatching Louisville Fire, LMPD blocking traffic during the rescue, and EMS transporting the semi-truck driver to the hospital,” the agency said.
