On Thursday, a shoplifter who was attempting to steal a can of soda stabbed a security guard who was working at a Duane Reade in Midtown Manhattan, according to the police and sources. The officer was attempting to steal the soda.
An employee at the convenience store located at the intersection of Third Avenue and East 52nd Street spotted the suspect with sticky fingers and confronted him just before 3 o’clock in the afternoon, according to the New York Police Department and other sources.
After the two got into an argument, the suspect allegedly stabbed the security guard in the hand and shoulder with a knife, according to the police sources.
The perpetrator of the attack ran away and remained at large until late Thursday.
It is not clear whether he was able to get away with the soft drink.
According to the authorities, the guard still has a stable condition.
Even though the number of homicides and shootings in New York City has reached an all-time low, the city continues to be plagued by stabbings.
During the rush hour on Wednesday morning at Grand Central Station, a maniac who was armed with a knife stabbed two people. Gavin Ferguson, a resident of The Bronx, was eventually identified as the man who was able to evade police for a number of hours.

Ferguson, who was apprehended at some point during the evening on Wednesday, was charged with attempted murder.
After a fight broke out at a subway station in Manhattan on the previous Saturday, a person was given a knife that was still stuck in his neck and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
During an attempt to shoplift at another Duane Reade location in Midtown Manhattan in June of last year, a young security guard was viciously stabbed and left in critical condition.
