A dump truck driver is critically injured after a collision on Friday morning sent his vehicle crashing into a house in northwest Tarrant County.
It has been discovered that a northbound vehicle with a blowout struck the rear of the dump truck, which was traveling south on Farm-to-Market Road 718. After veering across FM 718, the dump truck seems to have slammed through a fence, flipped onto its side, and then slid into a house on Melissa Cove.
“When we came into the neighborhood and I saw it rolled over, I don’t think I ever ran so fast in a long, long time,” the truck driver’s daughter, Chelsea Stone, said.
The trucking company is also owned by him. Stone’s spouse gave them an explanation of what investigators told them occurred.
“A young kid blew a tire on a car and slid under the tandem and hit his truck, causing him to flip,” the truck driver’s son-in-law, James Reed, said.
Across FM 718 from the house, the damaged vehicle was seen partially stopped on train tracks.
Despite several cuts, the truck driver is expected to recover after being brought to the hospital.
“He was doing his best not to hit that house, not to hit their shed,” Stone said. “He was just being professional, what he has learned to be. He’s awesome.”
A person who was in a bedroom of the house when the dump truck crashed through the wall was treated on the spot for minor injuries, according to the Newark Volunteer Fire Department.
The driver of the vehicle that collided with the dump truck was not sent to the hospital and only suffered minor injuries.
The truck driver’s family expressed gratitude that it wasn’t worse, but the homeowners didn’t want to discuss what had happened.
“He’s always knows what to do and is calm when it comes to major accidents,” Stone said.
