Lucas Saurbaugh, 19, died in a crash on Victory Highway in Erwin on Saturday. An investigation is ongoing.
At 11:24 a.m., New York State Police in Painted Post responded to a complaint of an accident involving an electric motorcycle and a pickup truck pulling a trailer on Victory Highway.
According to State Police, the operator of an electric motorcycle entered the roadway from a Victory Highway location and failed to yield to a 2019 Dodge pickup truck pulling a trailer travelling westbound.
As a result, the e-bike crashed with the 2019 Dodge pickup and trailer, driven by a 31-year-old Painted Post employee.
Police said the 19-year-old had life-threatening injuries and was evacuated to Guthrie Corning Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge truck had no injuries.
According to Goodrich Auto Works, Lucas Saurbaugh, who has worked in the paint department since October 2023, would have turned 20 on Monday.
“Lucas was a one of a kind, funny, hard working young man,” the company stated on Facebook. “He has left a life long impression on all of us and will be deeply missed. There are no words to express the heart break of this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lucas’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
