The police said that a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Route 37 resulted in the biker being thrown approximately 140 feet and resulting in his death.
William Swiderski, 24, a resident of Brick, was driving west on Route 37 just before 3:30 p.m. on April 19 when his motorcycle, a red 2007 Honda CBR, collided with a 2020 Honda Accord driven by a Manchester resident who was 20 years old, according to a news release issued by Manchester Police Captain Al Vega.
“Upon impact, the motorcycle burst into flames and the motorcyclist was ejected over 140 feet from the vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder of (Route) 37,” Vega explained to reporters.
At the Community Medical Center in Toms River, both drivers were taken to receive medical treatment. Swiderski was unable to recover from his injuries and was subsequently proclaimed dead. Injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening were assessed and treated for the other driver.
Although the investigation is still underway, Vega stated that it looked that speeding and failing to obey a traffic signal were contributing factors in the vehicle accident. The driver who was traveling at a fast rate of speed or who did not respect a signal was not immediately obvious by the time the incident occurred.
In order to facilitate the investigation and the cleanup of the roadway, Route 37 was blocked for a number of hours.
