The widespread success of this masterpiece series of the 1995 ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’ led to the resurrection of the Japanese anime industry and oversaw a massive billion-dollar franchise also including the hugely popular Build Reconstruction Film Series.

The Evangelion franchise has been around a little over two decades now and it’s understandable if you can’t seem to remember all of its releases. So to help you remember, we’ve listed the order based on its premiere.

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion was released on October 4, 1995, consisting of 26 episodes.

Revival of Evangelion

  • Death and Rebirth movie was launched in March 15, 1997.

  • The End of Evangelion movie came out in July 9, 1997 movie

Neon Genesis Rebuild of Evangelion

  • 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone movie was released on September 1, 2007.

  • 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance movie premiered on June 27, 2009.

  • 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo movie was launched on November 17, 2012.

  • 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time was published on March 8, 2021.

The 4th and final movie was revealed along with the 3rd movie back at the time. The first two movies earned positive reviews and were a huge commercial success. However, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo is the only movie to receive a lukewarm review. Shortly after, Hideaki Anno, who’s the director and producer of the franchise suffered from intense depression.

In 2015, he made a public announcement disclosing that not even once did he visit the studio in 2013. Also, the reason why the release of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time was delayed is because that same year Anno was busy with another project. He was serving as a co-director of ‘Shin Godzilla’ which premiered in July 2016. Fans can’t also help but wonder why Evangelion 4.0 is greatly delayed even though it was announced many years ago. To know more about the upcoming movie, here’s everything we know.

Evangelion 4.0 Release Date: When is it Releasing?

Back in April 2017, it was confirmed that filming for the 4th movie had already commenced. A glimpse of 10 minutes was showcased by Khara at the Japan Expo in Paris in 2019. The short video was shown at several Japanese sites, including Anime Expo in Los Angeles, and CCG Expo in Shanghai. The movie’s preparation was going smoothly, and it was slated to be circulated on June 27, 2020. But then the Covid-19 Pandemic happened and the movie was removed from the schedule in early 2020.

The new premiere date was then set for a release on January 23, 2021. But then again the scheduled air date was pulled on January 14, 2021. The show makers have since announced that there won’t be any new date for the release. Nevertheless, ‘‘Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time’’ arrived on march 2021 although there has been no news about the release date of the 4th Evangelion movie. If we have to make a guess, the upcoming will likely arrive sometime in 2023 at the earliest.

Evangelion 4.0 Plot: Expectations

In the previous tale of Evangelion, we witnessed a lot of gritty scenes due to the conventional character Shinji, the main protagonist. Nonetheless, there’s going to be a war element in the future proceedings as well. Gendo, the estranged father of our main character and also the director of the Nerv organization will assign her son to lead Evangelion Unit-13. Also, keeping the same pace as the former episodes of Evangelion, it is expected that the much anticipated Evangelio 4.0 will have plenty of action and violence.
