Three different pedestrians were killed in a string of deadly crashes that happened overnight, and Denver police are looking into the incidents.
Concerns regarding pedestrian safety and careless driving have been raised by the occurrences, which took place in several locations throughout the city within a few hours of one another.
Around 3:45 a.m., the first tragic collision happened at the junction of Speer Boulevard and Colfax Avenue. The Denver Police Department (DPD) reports that a car and a pedestrian were involved in a hit-and-run incident.
The pedestrian passed away from injuries received in the collision, despite the prompt arrival of emergency personnel at the scene. Before the police came, the driver who was involved in the collision left the site.
Police reported a major development in the case by Sunday afternoon. The abandoned car belonging to the suspect was discovered close to the scene of the collision.
Jose Hernandez, 22, was taken into custody after investigators were able to identify the car’s owner. Hernandez is currently accused of killing someone in a car.
In order to notify the victim’s next of kin, authorities have not yet disclosed any additional information about the victim’s name.
Another fatal event was reported on southbound Interstate 25 near 23rd Avenue at around 4:30 a.m., about 45 minutes later.
A second hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian was attended to by officers. While detectives worked the site, many lanes of southbound I-25 were blocked.
