Five-car collision on I-93 North leaves 1 Dead in Medford, Causes traffic chaos

One person was killed in a five-car incident on Interstate 93 north in Medford on Thursday, which stopped the highway’s northbound lane and created substantial traffic delays.

The Massachusetts State Police, Medford Police Department, Medford Fire Department, and EMS all responded to the incident on I-93 north near Exit 25 around 6:20 p.m. Thursday.

Police arrived on the site and reported a “major collision involving numerous vehicles” with one person critically injured. Around 7:12 p.m., authorities reported that the victim had died as a result of their injuries.

As a result of the incident, the northbound lane of I-93 near Roosevelt Circle was closed, as were Exits 23 and 24 northbound.

Police reported heavy traffic near Roosevelt Circle and recommended vehicles to seek alternate routes.

It is unclear what caused the crash or whether anyone else was injured.
