During a day camp retreat in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, a Girl Scout troop consisting of over 100 girls and volunteers was rescued after they became stranded at a cabin due to unexpected flash flooding.
Just as the throng of girls were preparing for lunch, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, saw more than two and a half inches of rain fall between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
After fleeing to the Girl Scout Cabin in the park, they were stranded by the intense downpour, which quickly soured their much-anticipated day of fun in the sun.
According to Jim Madalinsky, a spokesman for Allegheny County police, the group got “stranded due to an overflowing stream nearby.”
To save the scouts, rescue workers hurried to the park.
As the water began to recede, the crews used a rope to help the young girls trudge through the rushing water and led them to drier land.
Girl Scout Lila Hall recalled, “They gave us all life jackets and helmets and told us to hold on to the person in front of us and we had a rope and just kind of held on and just walked across”
Emilia Krieger, another scout, added, “We had to stay calm because the younger girls were freaking out too, so I sang some songs, I tried to cheer them up.”
According to Allegheny County police, all of the volunteers and scouts made it to safety, and no injuries were reported.

The girls’ parents were waiting for them with open arms and an abundance of towels after they had successfully navigated the flood.
From the youngest kindergartener, Daisies, to the senior Ambassadors in high school, the Girl Scouts offer a variety of levels for every age group. The group’s most well-known event is its yearly cookie sale, where troops compete for expensive grand prizes like a trip to Walt Disney World.
This year, the reigning Tribeca champion lost the battle of the boroughs to the 2025 top seller in NYC, a Bay Ridge scout who sold an incredible 2,528 cookies.
