FHP Master Cpl. Patricia Jefferson-Shaw said that a “very serious” crash Wednesday afternoon in Taylor County injured four persons.
According to an FHP press statement, the collision occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Highway 27 close to James Bethea Road and involved a gas truck, a logging truck, a sedan, and a pickup truck.
Authorities said that a 52-year-old Perry man “side-swiped” a logging truck operated by a 67-year-old Greenville man who was heading west on the highway en route.
According to troopers, the gas truck rolled over after the hit and eventually stopped on its side in the middle of the road. The logging truck continued on its way, side-swiping a pickup vehicle and a sedan. According to FHP, the logging truck also flipped, obstructing a portion of the highway.
On the north side of the highway, the drivers of the pickup truck and sedan pulled off. Law police reported minor injuries to both drivers.
The drivers of the gas and logging trucks were taken to the hospital via helicopter after suffering severe injuries in the crash.
After the collision, troopers rerouted traffic, and according to Cpl. Jefferson-Shaw, the logging truck’s logs were all over the road.
