An afternoon shooting on April 25 claimed the life of a five-year-old twin sibling. On April 26, deputies made three arrests in connection with the incident.
Shawnteza La Shay Sherman, 31, of Greenville, was taken into custody by deputies, according to Lt. Ryan Flood of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. She faces charges of criminal conspiracy, murder, and two counts of attempted murder.
A 16-year-old who has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime was taken into custody by deputies. Charged with owning a firearm while under the age of eighteen is another minor who was a part of the shooting.
Flood claims that on April 25, sheriff’s office deputies were called about gunfire at 5:30 p.m. and arrived at the Belle Meade Apartments’ “G Building.”
Deputies found three youngsters shot inside an apartment when they got there. An 18-year-old boy and two unnamed twins, each five years old. At the scene, one of the five-year-old boys passed away, and his twin was critically ill in the hospital.
The unnamed 18-year-old was admitted to the hospital as well, however his injuries were not life-threatening.
In a press conference following the shooting, Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis stated that multiple shooters were involved in the event. Lewis stated at the news conference that it seems the crime was connected to a gang.
The units’ breezeway and parking lot were the sites of the shooting.
Sherman is facing over a dozen offenses in Greenville County, according to court records. There are still three waiting from 2023 and two from 2024.
The youngster who was apprehended is currently in the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
