Georgia driver injured after car hauler catches fire on I-24 in Marion County

Marion County, TN – A 46-year-old driver from Georgia was injured after the car hauler he was operating caught fire on Interstate 24 near Old Whiteside Road, just across the Tennessee state line, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).

The incident occurred on the westbound side of I-24, where the driver was operating a 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer loaded with multiple vehicles. A preliminary report from THP confirms that the fire broke out while the hauler was in motion, resulting in injuries to the driver.

As of 2:30 p.m., the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s SmartWay traffic map indicated that only one lane remained open in the area. Traffic congestion extended back into Georgia, and cleanup crews were actively working to clear the scene.

No further details about the driver’s condition or the cause of the fire have been released at this time. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
