HARPERSVILLEFollowing the conclusion of the qualifying period, the candidates for Harpersville’s mayor and town council have been selected for the August 26 2025 municipal election.
On Tuesday, June 24, candidates who wanted to run for mayor or town council were able to guarantee their spot on the ballot by completing the required papers and supplying the required documentation.
Since incumbent Theoangelo Perkins is running uncontested, there won’t be a battle for the mayoral position. Perkins was mayor of Harpersville from 2004 to 2016, although he was re-elected in 2020. The ballot will not include Perkins.
With Mayor Pro Tempore Janet Gill opting not to seek reelection to District 2, Place 3 on the Town Council after 25 years of service, Harpersville will also have at least one new council member.
The campaign for District 1, Place 1 on the Town Council is the only other uncontested position in Harpersville’s 2025 municipal election. Longtime council member and retired nurse, Councilmember Beverly Oden Johnson, will not be on the ballot.
For District 1, Place 2 in the Town Council, there are two candidates. Jaime Kelley is running against incumbent Martin Dates.
Sheila Kidd Rich, the current incumbent, and Malynda McLaughlin, the challenger, will compete for District 2, Place 1 on the Town Council.
James J. Smith, the challenger, and incumbent William Carter will compete for the second seat on the Town Council in District 2.
With six contenders, the race for District 2, Place 3 on the Town Council will be the most competitive. Gill might be replaced by Bill Christenberry, Donna Delimater, Christy Dickey, Ryan Harry, Philip Newman, and Starla Jones.
On August 26, residents of Harpersville will cast their ballots at the town’s one polling station, the Harpersville Community Center.
On November 3, the first Monday in November, the elected candidates will assume office. That same day, the new council will hold its inaugural meeting.
