Police are speaking out after their $1 million bail request to keep a man suspected of violently assaulting a pregnant lady off the streets was denied.
On April 24, a masked suspect severely attacked a pregnant woman in the parking lot of the Hatfield Village Apartments.
The horrific scene was captured on film, prompting the arrest of Raymond Bautista, 36, on Monday.
His bond was set at $75,000 unsecured after he was charged with Aggravated Assault of an Unborn Child, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
Hatfield police issued a statement on Tuesday requesting that bail be set at $1 million. However, the district judge reduced the request to $75,000 unsecured.
“The viciousness of this attack against a completely unsuspecting person warranted such a request… Believe me when I tell you that we are just as shocked as you are.”
The department states that they have requested a bail review in this case.
“We feel strongly that more should be done to ensure the victim in this case has some peace.”
According to investigators, Bautista knew where the victim lived and what time she went for work, so he was lurking and waiting nearby for her when she left her apartment the morning of the attack.
According to the criminal complaint, one of the first cops to arrive at the site questioned the girl if she knew anyone who could want to harm her.
She informed him that the only person she could think of who would want to harm her was Raymond Bautista, the father of her unborn kid.
According to hospital records, the victim sustained nasal bone fractures. abrasions and bruises.
Detectives acquired a search order for Bautista’s vehicle and discovered a black ski mask with eye holes but no mouth hole and black gloves on the front passenger seat floorboard.
The suspect’s clothes was comparable to what he wore while carrying out the assault.
The victim alleged that Bautista was aware that she was pregnant with his child and offered she use an emergency contraception. The victim indicated that she informed Mr Bautista she was going to retain the child. Bautista informed the victim that he did not want any involvement in the child’s life.
According to the lawsuit, Bautista called out ill from work at 2:44 a.m., an hour and a half before the attacker was caught on a neighbor’s ring camera hiding in wait before the assault.
During a second interview with police on Monday, Bautista admitted to the assault.
