June promises warmer, drier weather after a gloomy, chilly, and gray end to May. This week, summer temperatures will soar to around 90 degrees, a high we haven’t seen since last August, as the sun returns.
June marks the start of the tri-state’s reliably warm weather, which is known as meteorological summer. By early July, average highs begin in the mid-70s and reach their peak in the mid-80s.
The 70s and 80s this week are a welcome change for those who enjoy warm weather after the 50s and 60s of late May.
On Tuesday, we ought to reach 80, something we haven’t done in weeks. On Wednesday, expect highs in the mid-80s, and on Thursday, expect temperatures close to 90 degrees! It will be the first time since August 28, 2024, if we reach 90.
It will also seem like the height of summer. In addition to summer heat, we are also experiencing summer humidity.
The humidity will remain low until Tuesday, but by Thursday and Friday, it will start to rise to the “unpleasant” range. Thus, schedule your outdoor activities in advance and get your air conditioner serviced by the end of the week.

The heat will be greatest in Central and South Jersey. There, temperatures will peak in the low 90s.
This would be a perfect time to go down the seaside for a last-minute vacation if you can. Along the shore, temperatures will be at least 10 degrees lower.
But remember to bring sunscreen whether you’re going to the beach or just eating lunch outside. This time of year, the sun is really strong. Avoid getting your first summer burn during our first stretch of sunny summer days.

Our early summer preview will come to an end by the end of the week when a cold front brings showers and storms to the area, bringing our temperatures and humidity back to more typical levels.
Fortunately, the pleasant 70s that characterize June will return rather than a recurrence of our May chill.
In summary, enjoy this week’s weather if you enjoy summertime heat and humidity. Be patient if you don’t. Soon, the 1970s will be back.
