It’s never a boring day in East High huh! Wildcats are you ready for more musical adventure? Gear up because it’s time to head back to East High where all the musical talents are packed.
It’s been almost a year since High School Musical Season 2 aired and fans are already looking forward to the next season. But when are we going to see it?
To be exact, the musical series was renewed for the next season run in September 2021. The series has received positive reviews and with a popular show like the High School Musical series, it’s no surprise that Disney+ renewed the series for a third season.
Series Creator and executive producer Tim Federle shared his excitement while speaking to Variety regarding the third season, he said: “We are overjoyed to be heading to the great outdoors for season three, and grateful to our partners and friends at Disney Plus for their continued support of our next-generation Wildcats.”
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 3 Release Date: When Will It Premiere?
The renewal announcement came pretty late and as per reports, filming for the new season was scheduled to begin this year, which means we’ll have to wait for new episodes to arrive in early 2022.
Practice the art of patience, folks.
The Upcoming Cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 3
It’s unknown if Olivia Rodrigo will be returning in the next season due to her sudden fame as a pop star. Fans were worried that her new career may stop her from coming back in season 3. Speaking to The Guardian in May 2021, Oliva said that she’s “committed to HSM for two more years.” With that said, she may return for HSMTMTS season 3 although we’re not really sure as she wants to focus on her career.
“I think it’s really hard to split time between the two and there are very few artists who do that efficiently, because acting is based on being a good liar and presenting a version of yourself that’s believable, and being a songwriter is the complete opposite. It’s like, here are all of my deepest, darkest secrets, and I want you to know me so personally.”
However, in a recent interview series creator Tim Federle told Hollywood Life: “Look, I have so much respect for Olivia as a songwriter and as a human and what her own dreams are. I love High School Musical with Olivia. I think Olivia is a massive part of our success but I think Season 3 is sort of a TBD in terms of where Nini’s journey would go.”
As for the other cast members, we have—
- Joshua Bassett (as Ricky Bowen)
- Matt Cornett (as EJ Caswell)
- Sofia Wylie as Gina Porter
- Larry Saperstein (as Big Red)
- Julia Lester (as Ashlyn Caswell)
- Dara Reneé (as Kourtney Greene)
- Frankie Rodriguez (as Carlos Rodriguez)
- Mark St Cyr (as Benjamin Mazzara)
- Kate Reinders (as Miss Jenn)

A source from Disney+ revealed to Variety that fans can expect to see new and old faces in the upcoming season.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 3 Plot: What To Expect?
Plot details are kept under wraps and it’s difficult to predict what’ll happen in season 3 though we’re expecting to see more musical drama and romance maybe? But then again, it all depends on the writers.
Federle earlier told Hollywood Life: “Choosing the musical for the show is hard because there are so many possibilities. You can go way, way off, you can go High School Musical 3, you can create a new musical.”
In terms of HSMTMTS season 3’s storyline, Federle teased while speaking to Hollywood Life that “I always like picking up right where you left off because I think that’s the nature of streaming TV today, which is very sensible. I have a couple of ideas for season 3, but ultimately it’s got to start at that greenlight so I’m hoping to get the chance.”
HSMTMTS star Larry Saperstein in a chat with Decider said, “The characters are going on this journey of self-discovery, figuring out the things that make them happy and what they love and what their passions are. They bring out the best in each other and see the best in each other, which is really important for where they’re at in their lives.”
