Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Cadet Death Case Were Reportedly Set to Escape

When two illegal aliens accused of killing an Air Force cadet candidate were arrested over the weekend, packed luggage were discovered.

Ava Moore, 18, was killed during Memorial Day weekend when she was struck by a jet ski while kayaking on Lake Grapevine in Texas.

Both the man who allegedly assisted her in escaping and the suspected driver of the jet ski are illegal aliens from Venezuela who were taken into custody in Dallas on Tuesday.

A criminal accusation of second-degree homicide was brought against 22-year-old Daikerlyn Alejandraa Gonzalez-Gonzalez.

It is alleged that 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo picked her up and ran away. Perozo allegedly struck another car while he was speeding away, according to the authorities.

He has been charged with two misdemeanors: obstructing apprehension and causing damage to a car. An arrest affidavit states that when the suspects were apprehended, their suitcases were packed.

According to reports, Perozo said police he assisted Gonzalez in escaping so she wouldn’t be apprehended.

The investigation was headed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The former administration’s open-border policies, according to President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, are to blame for the Air Force cadet candidate’s death.

“Ava Moore was a patriot serving her country when she was killed by an illegal immigrant in a hit-and-run over Memorial Day weekend. This senseless tragedy was 100 percent preventable,” DHS stated in a post on X.

“Daikerlyn Gonzalez and Maikel Perozo entered the US illegally in 2023 and were released into our interior,” the post added.

“The previous administration’s open border policies have cost too many Americans their lives. President Trump and Secretary Noem will continue to stand with victims of illegal immigrant crime and their families.”

Joshua Johnson, acting field director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Emergency Removal Operations in Dallas, initially acknowledged the two were in the country unlawfully during a press conference on Wednesday.

“It’s my understanding that both the individuals crossed the southern border in 2023 or 2024,” Johnson stated. “They were arrested at the time of entry, processed on a notice to appear and then released on their own recognizance.”

He noted that after the criminal proceedings in Texas are over, the suspects will be processed for removal after ICE filed detainers for them.

According to her coach at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado, Moore was a standout basketball player who had always aspired to be a four-star general in the military.

“You know, we talked throughout the course of the year that, at some point in her career, she was going to be a four-star general because she loved it,” Ke’sha Blanton stated. “She made those around her better.

“They took a bright, bright star from our lives.”

According to the US Air Force Academy, Moore was a member of the Class of 2029 and will start as an Air Force cadet in the coming weeks.
