There are a variety of camps and opportunities available for children who are neurodiverse at Glazer Children’s Museum.
April is Autism Acceptance Month, and if you are a parent who is looking for something to do for their child this summer, Glazer Children’s Museum is a great option.
In order to provide neurodiversity affirming camps, the Museum has invested a significant amount of time and effort over the course of many years.
Children with autism or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), children with various neurodiversities, and children with neurotypical development all collaborate and play together in an atmosphere that is truly inclusive, according to Kate White, chief marketing officer for Glazer Children’s Museum.
In order to provide families with the assurance that their children are in capable hands, they have provided these camps with additional services.
“We have an orientation ahead of time that’s optional for any campers who want to feel really secure and like they know what they’re going to expect,” White stated. “We have a special quiet room, or sensory space, for them when they need to take a break. We have additional staff, a behavioral therapist and other supports. They’re allowed to bring their own aids if they want to.”
Cairo, Byrel Amoros’s kid, is accompanied by his mother to the camp. She stated that her son does not communicate verbally, but when she picks him up, she is able to observe his development.
“He went from, I’m scared to I need somebody to be next to me, to now, I can do it by myself,” Amoros stated.
It has been possible for the Children’s Museum to extend the length of their camps from one week to three weeks, and all of their employees have received training.
“For years, we have been working with CARD, the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, at USF,” White stated. “So, that’s been a wonderful partnership, because we really have been able to have a lot of training, they have helped us with our facility and how to make it more inclusive and welcoming for all guests.”
As a result of Glazers’ recent acquisition of yet another accreditation, the organization is now recognized as a Certified Autism Center.
To establish an atmosphere in which every child has the opportunity to achieve success, this certification is simply one of the tools that they have at their disposal.

“I feel that anything is possible, I feel that the vision that I had seen and the faith that I had in this camp came true,” Amoros stated.
