Drunk teens allegedly led police on a high-speed chase Friday night, eventually crashing a stolen automobile in Bartholomew County.
According to Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane, at 11:30 p.m. on April 11, deputies were notified of a car traveling dangerously on Interstate 65 northbound.
Police stated the vehicle was weaving on the road and braking for many other vehicles. Police attempted to stop the car, but it sped away, doing more than 110 mph.
During the car chase, police stated the driver attempted to exit the interstate at the 64-mile marker but lost control of the vehicle. The automobile eventually became airborne and rolled over, trapping one of the three passengers inside.
All three were brought into custody.
Police stated all of them were juveniles, and they suspected the children were inebriated.
Police also discovered that the car the juveniles were in had been reported stolen from Indianapolis.
All three kids got medical care, with one being sent to Riley Children’s Hospital.
The 16-year-old driver was charged with marijuana possession, theft, resisting law enforcement with a car, operating while drunk, operating while intoxicated – endangerment, and illegal consumption.
