Jacksonville man on probation caught with 5 Kilos of Cocaine at Traffic stop

A Jacksonville man with a history of drug trafficking was arrested again after a traffic stop resulted in the discovery of five kilograms of cocaine.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Tommy Chin Van Duong was stopped for a traffic violation as he left I-95 onto SW Martin Highway over the weekend.

Van Duong, 38, was stopped by deputies and special investigations detectives, who remarked that he appeared nervous.

Deputies claim they brought in a K9, who immediately detected drugs inside the vehicle.

According to the MCSO, a search of Van Duong’s SUV turned up a concealed bag beneath the driver’s seat containing five bricks of cocaine. Each brick weighed one kilogram, for a total of five kilograms of cocaine.

“It’s not clear where those drugs were headed, but thanks to the work of our deputies, detectives, and K9 units, we know where this load isn’t going,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a post announcing the arrest.

At the time of his arrest, Van Duong was on probation for trafficking MDMA, which was set to last until 2034.

The suspected drug trafficker was sent to Martin County Jail.

Von Duong was arrested by MCSO deputies on charges of cocaine trafficking and probation violation.
