Some of you may remember the infamous sci-fi movie ‘Jupiter Ascending’ that came out in 2015 as the movie that massively bombed at the box office. To be precise, it’s been a little over seven years since we witnessed the movie and it seems people are curious to know if there will be a sequel to Jupiter Ascending despite the critical reviews and the disaster of a movie.
Directed and written by The Wachowskis and produced by Grant Hill along with The Wachowskis. It stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, and Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth. When Jupiter Ascending was released it collected $136.5 million worldwide against a budget of $176-210 million. Before the movie came out, it secured a place on the list of “The Riskiest Box Office Bets of 2015” as per screenrant. It had been predicted to collect between US$21–23 million in its initial weekend.
According to David Edelstein of Vulture.com, he was very critical about the entire movie and called it “inane from the first frame to last … it’s miraculously unmiraculous.” With such critical responses can we still expect to see a sequel after so many years? Let’s find out.

Jupiter Ascending 2: Will it Happen?
Currently, there has been no concrete news or information regarding a sequel to Jupiter Ascending. Also considering how badly the first movie performed at the box office, it is unlikely that a second movie will be produced in the future but if in case the filmmakers want to win back the audience one more time by producing another far better movie than they might actually go for it but the other big challenge is whether the stars are up for it due to their involvement in other projects or if they are even interested or not.
Previously, actor Channing Tatum in one of his interviews said that he “felt like the fat kid at the buffet, ust working and working and working,” he said. “I took four movies back to back without any time off. I wasn’t as good as I wanted to be in those last two movies because I didn’t have the energy.”
He continued, “‘Jupiter Ascending’ was a nightmare from the jump, it was a sideways movie. All of us were there for seven months, busting our hump. It was just tough.”
With that said, we’re not really sure he is willing to do another movie again but whatever it may be let’s wait for the more official notice.
Release Date For Jupiter Ascending 2: When Is It?
As of now, there are no concrete details on whether or not a sequel is in development. However, it was previously reported that The Wachowski sisters were supposed to work on a sequel scheduled for 2017 with a much-lessened budget but till now the sequel has not been released.
In 2018, The Wachowskis sisters dropped by at the Studio Exec house to speak about the new image to which Lana said: “We really roasted the studio on the last one and there was no way in this solar system that they would put up the money to take a bath on the sequel as well. And yet we still felt that we had a story to tell. A truly compelling story.”
Lily Further explained: “Yeah, there was no way they were going to help us out unless we cut the money right back. Mila and Channing were really cool about it. We showed them what we intended to do about the story and how we couldn’t afford them anymore and they seemed really happy.” So does this indicate that a sequel is happening in the future? The sisters haven’t revealed anything about a specific release date but we can anticipate the sequel to arrive sometime in 2024 at the earliest.
The Cast of Jupiter Ascending 2: Who Will Return?
Mila Kunis will not reprise her role as Jupiter Jones, nor will Channing Tatum reprise his role as Caine Wise. These two actors have been replaced by Lindsay Lohan and Hayden Christensen. This was confirmed by The Wachowski sisters in an interview at the studio. It’s not known if the other cast members will return but it’s likely that the whole cast will be replaced and introduce the viewers to a whole new cast.

What Can We Expect From Jupiter Ascending 2?
Lana revealed in an interview that “the story is a continuation, but instead of having lots of expensive effects it’s going to take place in a garage that needs tidying up.”
Lilly added: “We do have some exteriors of lawns being mown and basic landscape gardening being done. And the style is going to be a lot more handheld.”
The Wachowskis also disclosed that they are changing the title for the sequel but did not mention what the title would be.
