Latest injury update on returning Alabama football captain Deontae Lawson

Published On:

In response to the query regarding linebacker Deontae Lawson, Kalen DeBoer initially raised his hand.

DeBoer gestured as though he were describing a rising stock when he stated, “His trajectory is going up.”

Since the loss to Oklahoma in November of last year, Lawson has been working to get back on the field after suffering a ruptured ACL. During Wednesday’s media view, Lawson was observed exercising with the linebackers while sporting a brace.

According to DeBoer, Deontae’s leadership is what has truly emerged. That’s thrilling. As anticipated, he would be restricted in only the quantity of repetitions; the best way to describe it is the volume of what he can tolerate. Just using his timetable from the start, that was the plan.

Lawson, who had intended to join the NFL, provides Alabama with its only returning captain instead. Tyler Booker, Malachi Moore, and Jalen Milroe, the other three captains, all left for the professional ranks.

Earlier this month, during SEC Media Days in Atlanta, Lawson stated that he believes he would be prepared for the first game against Florida State in one month.

On Wednesday, DeBoer stated, “It’s great to have him out there.” I believe that being out there makes him feel great. He’s in a great place, both mentally and physically, in my opinion. As we prepare for the first game, there is still work to be done.

In 2024, during his fourth season with the Crimson Tide, the native of Mobile was selected to the third team of the SEC. Before his season ended early due to the injury, Lawson recorded 76 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception.
