Southern California is expected to experience a significant shift in weather this weekend following a bright and pleasant Friday.
“The big deal is going to be the wind. We’re going to have strong gusty winds, Saturday into Sunday,” KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.
In many mountain, desert, foothill, and even some valley regions, winds from the southwest to northwest are predicted to reach between 25 and 45 mph.
Along with the possibility of light rain this weekend due to a low-pressure system, significant cooling is also anticipated. The majority of rain totals should stay below a tenth of an inch, with lower elevation mountain villages and foothill regions perhaps receiving up to a half-inch.
“What have I been saying all week long? The storm is going to be more bark than bite,” Henry said. “Yeah, we’re going to get some rain, but for most of us, very light.”
The most of the rain is predicted to fall on Sunday, with the showers developing on Saturday night. “I think we’ll all get some drizzle at the end of the day,” Henry remarked.
The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts that winter temperatures will plummet to about 5,500 feet. Snowfall might range from two to five inches.
Before drier, warmer weather returns the next week, there is a slight risk of rain through Monday morning.
