Louisiana Minister Dies After Being Thrown from Boat, Struck by Propeller

In a tragic event, a clergyman from Louisiana was flung from his boat and struck by the propeller, which ultimately led to his death there.

According to a press release issued by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), Danny Harrison, who was 71 years old at the time, was thrown off his sailboat, which was 16 feet long and was located in the Calcasieu River in Lake Charles at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time on June 8.

According to the release issued by the LDWF, Harrison’s boat collided with an object in the water, and the forty-horsepower vehicle subsequently circumnavigated the surrounding region without any human beings, finally colliding with him.

According to the LDWF, Harrison was wearing a life jacket; however, it did not appear that he was wearing a “kill switch lanyard.”

This type of lanyard is intended to remotely turn off the engine of a boat in the event that the driver is ejected from the vessel.

A kill switch lanyard is technically required for a boat of the size and power that Harrison had been operating, according to the explanation provided by the LDWF.

According to an obituary that was published on the internet, Harrison was referred to as “the most skilled fisherman” who “never gave up his secret fishing spots.”

“He gave the absolute biggest and warmest hugs to everyone,” according to the obituary, adding that Harrison was a licensed minister and was “committed to his calling.”

His wife, children, and siblings are the only people who will remember Harrison. Lake Charles was the location of a memorial service that took place on June 12 in the past.

An investigation into the incident is still being carried out by the Enforcement Division of the LDWF.
