Man Allegedly Murders In-Laws, Dies in Confrontation With Colorado Police

Early on Friday morning, two bodies were discovered inside a house in the Denver metropolitan region. According to the police, their son-in-law killed them.

When Adams County Sheriff’s officers were called to a residence for a well-being check, they found the deceased, a 79-year-old man and woman.

Just after 5 a.m., deputies found a man brandishing a knife at the residence near Lofton Court and Kokai Circle. Deputies claimed that despite using a variety of tools, they were unable to disarm the individual.

“The deputies gave verbal directives to drop a knife. They gave some space, and they tried to end the situation as safely as possible. They even utilized some resources — taser deployments and soft pallets to try to end the situation, but unfortunately, those were ineffective,” Adams County Sheriff Sgt. Adam Sherman stated.

Deputies claimed to have shot the man, who was later found to be 51 years old and the victims’ son-in-law. The suspect passed away after being taken to the hospital.

Following the incident, two adult victims were discovered dead inside the house where the initial 911 call came from during a “safety sweep” by deputies.

The suspect killed the couple, according to investigators. The man allegedly told the operator what had transpired when he contacted 911 and sent the family concerning messages.

At the house, a truck had collided with the garage. The suspect was thought to be the owner of it. The goal of the investigation is to ascertain whether the suspect was impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Guns and other weapons were discovered within the house.

“We do have a scattered crime scene, so there’s going to be a lot of evidence to process and to document. The crime scene techs, who will be doing a lot of that throughout the day, plus a large-scale scene inside the home itself, to investigate as a homicide at this point,” Sherman stated.

Charlie LaPatina, a neighbor, claimed to have heard the gunshots that killed the suspect.

“My wife was getting up for work and we heard a scuffle out there — just a lot of yelling,” he stated. “I went to my window over here and heard the shots go off.”

The Adams/Broomfield County Coroner’s Office will identify the suspect.
