A gunman caught on film brazenly shooting at a driver on a Livermore road in what officials described as a case of road rage last month has been apprehended in Seattle.
According to the Livermore Police Department, the suspect, 26-year-old Demarionte Smith of Oakley, fled multiple states to avoid detection.
Smith was apprehended by US Marshals in Seattle on April 1 after fleeing there to stay with family members, according to the Livermore Police Department.
He is awaiting extradition to California.
His arrest came after a weeks-long probe into the March 11 incident near North Vasco Road and Dalton Avenue.
According to video footage from the incident, Smith allegedly opened fire on another motorist.
A witness captured film of two sedans—one appeared to be a black Toyota Camry and the other a light-colored vehicle—that were parked and partially impeding traffic.
As other vehicles pass by, the driver of the Toyota exits the vehicle. The driver of the light-colored automobile also emerges and, within three seconds, opens fire.
According to authorities, the Toyota driver was struck and collapsed to the ground, as shown on camera.
The sufferer was taken to a local hospital and is already recovering.
Smith is charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
