Man dead after motorcycle crashed with Pickup exiting gas station in Macon

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man from Warner Robins lost his life in a motorbike accident near Macon on Tuesday morning.

Between Houston Avenue and Allen Road, deputies temporarily blocked all lanes of traffic on Hawkinsville Road. According to the sheriff’s office, the lanes were free by approximately nine in the morning.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, deputies were called to a 911 call at 7:30 a.m. about a “traffic collision” on Hawkinsville Road, north of the Allen Road intersection.

A 42-year-old Macon man in a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck is accused of turning left onto Hawkinsville Road and colliding with a Harley-Davidson motorbike driven by David Christopher Lewis, who was heading north on the road. It was a pickup truck leaving a petrol station.

Lewis, a 40-year-old motorcyclist, was declared dead at the site by Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson, according to the sheriff’s office.

To treat his wounds, paramedics sent the truck driver to a hospital. Shortly after the collision, his condition was described as stable.

Investigations were underway Monday morning into the deadly crash. It was recommended that anyone with information about the incident contact the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500 and request to speak with a fatality investigator.
