Man dies in crash, suspect takes own life after high-speed police chase in Houston

Late Thursday night, two men were killed when one of them, according to Houston police, led them on a chase in a stolen vehicle, killed another driver on the southwest side of the city, and then shot himself.

According to the police, it took place in the 7500 block of W. Bellfort Avenue. According to preliminary information, a chase ensued as an unnamed suspect in a stolen car escaped from police during a traffic stop shortly before 8 p.m.

According to HPD, other officers were able to pull back a little because a helicopter pursued the car from the air.

However, the suspect collided with a car that was making a U-turn during the pursuit. According to investigators, the driver was flung from his car by the impact of that collision; he died as a result of his injuries.

The suspect’s car then collided with a light pole, setting it on fire.

According to HPD, firemen managed to extinguish the fire and rushed to extract the suspect from the vehicle. Investigators claim that the guy then took a revolver from his belt and shot himself. He passed away right there.

While the collision victim, who was also a guy, looked to be in his mid-40s, authorities have only characterised the suspect as a man in his 20s. Additionally, they claim that the ensuing pursuit and deadly collision happened in a flash, taking place in less than two minutes.

The chase and fatal crash are still being investigated.
