A man found shot and unresponsive in his Birmingham home nearly two weeks ago has died.
Mardrecus Quartez Hardy, 42, was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday at UAB Hospital, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
East Precinct officers were dispatched at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, July 5, to a report of a person down inside a residence in the 6900 block of Division Avenue.
Family members made the discovery during a welfare check, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald, and believed Hardy was dead.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived, and Hardy was still alive but unresponsive. Officers later learned he had been shot.
Hardy was taken to UAB Hospital.
His family removed him from life support Saturday, July 12, and police initially reported he had died.
Family and police later said Hardy had not died as originally reported.
No arrests have been made.
Hardy is Birmingham’s 42st homicide this year.
